Even though most of the jobs are done by the wordpress themes and plugins, we have to work based on the Goal of Redesign – i mean, what we want to achieve ?

Yes, redesigning your blog definitely needs a goal and focus. In my case, i used a dark style theme before (see the screen shot below) and i hardly tweaked a lot in order to make it success. It went well and satisfied both the visitors, search engines. However, i felt certain things are not available or appealing to the visitors and decided to move my blog to next level. I didn’t outsource any of these redesign activities and did everything my self in customizing the theme for my specific needs.

The aim – make the blog simple, attractive and appealing…

Now you are seeing the new design of this blog and it is based on the Theme-Junkie (no affiliate link) Daily theme. I could see this theme more appealing and professionally designed. The following are the 3 major advantages of this theme that i could see/feel….

Simple & Professional Design.

Simplicity is more important in web design and it makes everything simple right from design management for a tech guy like me as well as in customizing the needs of visitors.

Even simple design helps the visitors in easy navigation and also, it loads faster (which is one of the important parameter in search engine ranking now-a-days).

Secondly, the finishing of this theme is great – used standard colors (like white, blue) and the design looks like carved…

Valid HTML & CSS.

This theme passes the HTML, CSS validation and there are no errors seen. That means, the look-n-feel works the best with various browsers and resolutions. And important, i could optimize/squeeze the CSS, JS code which directly reduces the page load time. In the old theme, i found lot of JS errors when i tried to load the site with different browsers or when i tried to optimize. Now, its multi-browser compatible and optimized !

Sidebar Ad Placement.

With the old theme, there were lot of issues in ad placement especially in the sidebar because that was a 3-column layout. Now, it is 2-column layout and 125×125 banner ads are perfectly fitting the design. The top bar ad placement is now 480×60 and earlier, it was 720×90 which i felt heavier in the top banner. Now the blog is powered to maximize ad revenue !

Other ReDesign Considerations…

• Yes, it is Search Engine Optimized and i tweaked few things to keep it same like the old theme.
• Tabbed listing in the sidebar which shows the popular, recent comments with AJAX thumbnails.
• Home page slider which looks simple and attracts the visitors attention.
• Recent Guest Authors listed in the sidebar and Recent Guest posts listed in the footer bar – to attract more guest authors.
• Brighter logo – since the background is white, the logo stands out i believe and definitely, attracts the visitor attention.
• Now the slogan “Anatomy of online business” is extended to “Anatomy of online business – explore yourself”.
• and much more….

Now the new design is up and running, lets hope for the best. I will continue to add value to the readers of this site and i have marketing plans to push it hard in order to move the blog to next level – towards attracting more regular readers, more guest authors and search/social traffic.

Further, i am working on the new product which helps wordpress bloggers to effectively monetize their blog (yes, that’s a premium wordpress plugin) – soon i will be launching it…

When it comes to beginners, the most common mistake, they want to earn quickly. Do that possible with blogging ? The answer is NO. As i mentioned earlier, blogging needs more dedication and hard work. You have to be focused towards the blog growth. Keep money aside and work only towards the blog growth. Many people monetize their blog from the day one. I am against that strategy, i believe growth first and money second.

Even after 1.5 years, i have not fully monetized this blog. Because i am working slowly for the growth, moreover i work on my spare time only (part-time entrepreneur). What i am saying is concentrate on the blog growth interms of producing useful content, driving more traffic and finally, money rolls in automatically.

Diversifying Blog Revenue.

In general, beginners start with Google Adsense and they struggle to make money. It takes month-over-month to get your first cheque. Adsense doesn’t works well in the earlier stage of your blog. It needs more traffic so that many people has to click on the Ads. Even I don’t run Adsense in this blog. You should always diversify your revenue from various sources. Don’t stick to Adsense. Similar, don’t stick to clickbank or CJ.

• There are variety of Ad/Affiliate networks make a different try. Its highly dependent on the niche where you are blogging, one program may work and the other may not work. I have a great list of Money making programs here, have a look to diversify.
• Also, learn to Setup your blog into money making system (it suggests you various ideas too).

Experimentation.

Experiments are part of every business. If you don’t want to experiment, it means you are not ready to grow. Because when you do experiments, you will get more ideas and insights. It actually improves your blog.

From my archive, making money as blogger is one of the best article that beginners should read to understand about blogging. Okay, lets go through those 7 simple steps for making money using blogs.

Blogger Is Free.

Interestingly, blogger blogs are free to create and manage. You have the full freedom to write articles to your blog and to even delete, modify the articles that you publish on your blogger blog. But as the fact its free, every one, you & me started creating free blogs. If you are serious about your blog, for sure you may be stick to 1 or 2 blogs. You will work constantly for your blog and your readers. But on the other side, you have to freedom to create multiple blogs, what’s the end result ?

Multiple Spam Blogs.

People started creating many junk blogs or spam blogs. Its really hard to control spam blogs, when people are creating multiple blogs they want. Somebody has to control the increasing number of spam blogs. Spam blogs may not add value to the reader and its created with bad ideas in mind. One good example of a spam blog is, Made For Adsense. Blogs which has less or no content & it has adsense Ads in all the places is a good example of spam blog. On other words, blogs created only for making money in mind.

Google Spam Prevention Bots.

I want to tell you that, blogger blog’s are not in your control. Its totally under Google’s control and Google may delete your blog for any reason. You will be put into trouble, if your blog was detected as spam. Blogging needs lot of hard work and you are investing precious time for your blogs growth. If you are not following Blogger policy then don’t use Blogger.com. I would advice, always use Self Hosted WordPress Blogs.

The major advantage of self hosting is, you are the owner, its completely owned by you & wordpress is open source (which means, the world is working for you). No one has the right to delete/block your blog. Only thing, you have to spend minimum of 50$ every year for web site hosting.

From my past experience of blogging, i have found that 4 facts which you should never miss. Because when you see blogging as a business, it needs consistency in everything. From producing content to making money, you have to work consistently. But it is always good to work on a planned approach. You should have a work nature or style for your blogging business and more important the focus/goals. There comes the Tetrad’s of blogging which you need to FOCUS. The terads are: Content, Reader, Traffic & Income.

These four are heavily inter-related and inter-dependent in nature. Lets see one-by-one, how a blogger should focus on these Tetrad’s ?

#1 Content.

Content plays a major role in your blog. Publishing useful content is the best practice in blogging. Whatever you write on your blog, it should be on your topic deeper. Content should solve a problem or it should guide the visitor. It’s a natural process, if you start writing useful content definitely your reader loves. In fact, content plays a major role in search engine traffic. Writing unique, fresh, quality content drives more search engine traffic. The kind of content decides the nature of visitor coming to your blog which readily affects your income. So the above 3 statement shows that content affects Reader, Traffic, Income.

#2 Reader.

Assert of your blog is reader. When no one reads your blog, it means you are not writing for readers. Many blogs are failing because of poor content which leads to lack of readers. When you write useful content, your blog gets more readers who are looking for such content. That’s why write for readers first and search engines next ! It don’t mean your blog’s subscriptions count, readers are those who are feeling that your blog has useful content. Branding your blog plays a major role too in attracting readers. #3 Traffic.

When you have content, you will get more reader, which is more traffic. Recently, i have classified the Traffic as Surfer Traffic, Research Traffic & Buyer Traffic as Kind of Traffic. The kind of traffic that you need for your blog depends on your content and Keywords. Keywords plays a major role in deriving such targeted traffic from search engines. Every article that you write, opens a gate way for traffic. Traffic decides your Income. When you don’t have traffic, you could not make money from your blog. #4 Income.

Finally, comes the income. The volume of traffic and kind of traffic decides the income. If you are selling affiliate products then you should need Buyer Traffic or Research Traffic. At the same time, if you have PPC Ads on your blog then you should need mostly Surfer Traffic. But overall, traffic decides the income. You should even monetize your blog effectively by both affiliate promotion and PPC Ads. If you are running a blog as business then making money will be your utmost goal, you work for income.

Then, how to increase your blog income ?

My Nature of Working With Blogs…

Even though I work as part-time, i will spend an hour almost every day for blogging. I work only for this blog and i don’t find more Time to work on multiple blogs. That’s a good habit as of now. But in the earlier stage, when I started my first blog, i don’t feel all these stuffs. Rather I would start a new blog every week or every day. Because I thought if I have multiple blogs, i will make more money. Is that fact, True ? Absolutely, No. I will produce little content for multiple blogs, no traffic, no money and full of failures. Why ? The reason is, no time but trying to work more. The result of this work nature is failure.

I was not able to write great content and all my blogs suffered with poor content, hence no growth, no traffic. I don’t say, working on multiple blog always fails. But there is a finding on Yourself. How you are capable in terms of Time & Knowledge ? Do you have this much time for working on this many blogs ? Now with 1 hour per day, i am able to work smart with one blog. If I have 2 hours per day then I could work on two blogs.

To Many...

Ignoring Multiple Blogs.

You may have an idea and you could start a blog to write on that topic. The another day, you will get some other idea and again you will start another blog. All with an intention to make more money from blogging. At one point of time, you feel bored about the first blog and will stop working for it. This situation again happens for your second blog too. So i want to say, blogging is not jumping between blogs. Its all about Consistency and Smart Working with few blogs.

Answer these 3 questions first.

• How much Time I am able to spend every day for my online business ?
• What kind of knowledge I have and on what Topic I am passionate in writing ?
• As a blogging goal, how much money you want to earn from blogging ?

Let’s do a case study ourselves, “How can I work with multiple blogs, when I have 1 hour per day ?”

Idea #1:

Work on one blog. Be consistent and produce content for the blog. Have goals and put all energy to achieve that goal. The time that I allot for my online business is completely given to one blog only. I don’t start multiple blogs. The end result is blog grows faster, gains more traffic and hence i will make more money.

Idea #2:

Start 2 blogs and write on alternative days for each of the blog. This way, you will write for blog_1 the first day and for blog_2 the next day. You have to maintain a balance in your effort and investment of Time is shared by 50-50 rule. The result is, these 2 blogs may not grow faster (with few exceptions based on the niche/content) because your work load is shared between them.

Idea #3:

Let me start multiple blogs as I like. There is not limitation and i will spend my time randomly on each of the blogs. I don’t have a schedule or plan for my blog. I write any time on any blog based on my interest. The result is, all my blog fails making no money.

Analysis…

Ignore Idea #3, its junk to work random on multiple blogs. But there are senses in Idea #1 & #2. When you have only one blog, it grows faster but that depends on many factors the topic/niche, usefulness of the articles that you write, freshness on the information, smarter blog promotion, how you are monetizing the blog and much more. But basically, your blog grows faster.

When you see idea #2, its not bad. I would say, its even better than Idea #1. Because you are investing Time & Work on 2 resources. You are growing 2 blogs and even when 1 blog fails the other may Win. Or both may win. Again it depends on many factors like usefulness of your blog content, consistency, promotion, monetization etc. Even a High competition niche affects your blog growth. But practically seeing, its really possible to work alternatively on 2 blogs with 1 hour of time per day.

Conclusion…

To make more better decision, its good idea to work on multiple blogs which are SIMILAR. I mean, similar or closely related Topics or Niche. The advantage is all your related blogs are Networked ! You could become an expert in your niche, popularity grows and you gain more traffic day-by-day.

The number of blogs, ‘N’ depends on the availability of Time & based on your blogging interests. Its quite straight forward and ultimately your blogs success depends on useful content, freshness, consistency and smart promotion. Finally, how many number of blogs you own that doesn’t matters, if you serve the reader, solve his problem then your blog gets more traffic & hence it makes you more money.

As of now, my investment is 1 hour per day on 1 blog and what about you ?

The funniest part is that many beginners are looking to make money with their very 1st post ! They will start a blog, write 1 or 2 posts then they will try to monetize it. The end results will be NIL. They will ask, how to make money ? And they will tell blogging is junk !

Even i too started my blogging career in that fashion. This is the basic understanding of the beginners about blogging as an online business. Not every online businesses are same. The kind of strategy and the work nature differs. For affiliate marketing, its totally different. Without even owning a website you could select a product from clickbank or cj & sell it using PPC Ads like Google Adwords or Yahoo Search Marketing. It requires the investment of money for running Advertisements and the work that you need is, making a great Ad campaign. Simply, put the targeted keywords, traffic rolls in and you could sell products. Sit back & receive your earned money.

When compared to blogging, the work strategy is totally different. Considering blogging as a business source, you have to take a different strategy which involves investment of Time, Knowledge and right amount of hard work !

I am saying, blogging is not easy.

It requires many “cistrons” to react and energize it as a business. Not all bloggers are making millions over night. Take any successful blogs and see their archives/history, you will know the real work done by them. Every successful blog has a great history and for sure without the investment of Time, Knowledge & Hard work, its not possible to reach that level of success.

But there are few exceptions that in a short period of time, your blog may reach the utmost level of success in terms of traffic & income too. For example, blog posts based on Google Trends. Google Trends are live charts which shows, Whats Hot in Internet Now ? This could be a political news, sports news or a celebrity news etc. Just watching the Google trends and publishing a short blog post will suddenly give a hike in traffic from Google. Because of the freshness of content and the demand for the content, your blog post rocks in driving traffic. You may get several 1000 visitors in a day, the reason is Demand !

I am saying, blog content should be demanding.

It actually varies based on the content or information. For example, the same Google trend method, may not send you traffic the next week or next month after you publish. Because, its a news. Its hot for a while and lost after wards.

On the another side, there are something called “Time Less Content“. Which are either fresh or not, but it lives for years. For example, this blog post is speaking the truth about blogging and it could be valid even after years 2020 or 2050 ! Another example, if you write about “life truths”, the information lives till the mankind lives. That’s called Time less content.

These kind of content, sends you traffic for years. There are wider gap between hot news content & timeless content. At the end, you should have both kind of content. Because, they both gives you the opportunity to drive traffic, why don’t you utilize that opportunity ?

I am saying, publish hot + time less content.

When I started blogging, i don’t know these kind of content strategies. But later, i realized the important of content and its varieties. Some times, my blog posts may go beyond the limits but always i want to convey the right information to the readers. Now readers, keeping readers in mind while producing blog content, is the best strategy of blog growth. Because, the overall aim of your blog as a business is making money but how to achieve that ? You need traffic, real traffic that needs your content. The traffic needs your information. Finally, your readers are going to decide the success of your blog. Its not like you will be simply sitting and producing content for the search engines.

“Search Engines are stupid softwares“. A piece of software which is ruling the Internet and its information. The entire web is addicted to search engines. When the real world scenario is like that, we should not stick to robots/softwares. I am not against search engines. I know, search engines are the major source of traffic for your web sites. Even my blog gets 79% of traffic from search engines especially from Google, Yahoo. But when you produce content, keep your reader in mind. I have identified 2 reasons why Search Engines are Stupid ? just go through that for fun.

Actually, if you started writing for readers, you are achieving two things. First, the blog readers will get what they need ? second, your content spreads & search engine loves your blog. Its a natural process. To mention, you should not avoid search engines too. You should optimize your site for search engines.

Search engines are softwares & it has less intelligent, that’s why humans are optimizing the pages for search engines. It doesn’t have sixth sense Producing useful content & promoting your site using positive (harmless) ways definitely gives your great search engine traffic.

When I started this blog, it was far away from many of the focused keywords. One example for success is that, this blog stands No. 1 for the keyword “Money Making Online” in Yahoo. And its slowly, occupying the SERP on Google too for many related keywords. The growth strategy is, i never stopped producing content. I want to produce great content always.

There comes the blogging flexibility. There are no rules and regulations for blogging. Its totally flexible to me and you. When i don’t find time, i will produce minimal content. I will convey the information short & sweet. At the other side, if have enough time to blog, i will produce huge content which are compelling and adds more value to the reader. I don’t know any other business that is not much flexible compared to blogging.

People may blog for may reasons, I blog about what I know, what I infer , what I realize and What I experience. But ultimately, its a business for me. I write for people, i write for traffic and finally, i want to make money from my blog. So when you read this complete post, one thing that’s striking is Traffic, Traffic & Traffic. That’s the utmost requirement for making money from your blog. If you don’t have traffic, you have to work for traffic. if you want more traffic, you have to work. If you don’t make money, you have to work for traffic. Finally, we need traffic to our site. That should be the utmost goal and aim of every blogger.

One important factor, select a good domain name to your blog (should be a brand name of yours or a keyword related to your topic). I thought of explaining the steps to start a blog in blogger in detail but found the below video useful. Watch out !

Keep on publishing Quality Unique Content.

So you have create a brand new blog of yours from blogger.com. Your next steps is producing content. Start writing articles related to your topic. You could write any kind of article like “how to”, “tips”, “tutorials”, “courses” related to your topic BUT write USEFUL & ORIGINAL content.

Have a goal, I will write 1 article per day and stick to that. Keep on publishing articles on your blog, important DON’T EXPECT ANY IMMEDIATE RESULTS. Because it takes time to build a site with good information. KEEP “WRITING” AS A “HABIT” IN YOUR DAY-TO-DAY ACTIVITIES !

How to promote a blog ? the answer to this question is huge and cannot be covered in few words. But there are few important factors to consider in promoting your blog.

You should have two aims,

• Search Engine Promotion. Publishing useful original articles in your blog drives visitors from search engines. One important thing, you have to gain back links (links pointing to your articles from other sites). You will automatically gain back links, if you have good articles or gain yourself by publishing articles on article submission sites (like ezinearticles.com, hubpages.com etc) & social bookmarking on digg.com, mixx.com, stumbleupon.com etc.

• Direct Promotion. Direct promotion in the sense gaining loyal readers to your blog. Use social media tools like twitter.com, facebook.com and build your network of readers. Have E-mail, RSS subscription options in your blog and ask the visitors to join.

Monetize Effectively (for money/income).

Making money from your blog is the one of end goal (producing quality content should be first ). There are two ways, the first way is “Ad Revenue” using Adsense or other PPC related programs or selling Ad space directly from your blog. The second way is promoting products (affiliate products from clickbank.com, Commision Junction (cj.com), Amazon.com, ebay.com etc) on your blog, products should be related to your blog topic or you could directly sell your own products (ebooks, videos or anything related to your topic…).

The final words are nearing, you have to keep the below statements in your mind.

• I will be patience & work for the growth of blog.
• I will work consistently on my blog.
• I will produce only useful content in my blog.
• I don’t expect big results/income in first 6 months to 1 year.
