Affiliate marketing is one of the profitable online business and it doesn’t even takes much work (is it?). I mean, you don’t need to worry about building a product and maintaining it for life long. Also, you are not restricted to a specific market or industry. You are totally on your control and you could pitch into any market, any time. That’s the greatest advantage of affiliate marketing. I would recommend you to take this business serious and at the same time, its fun too. The first step is finding the right product to promote. Once you joined the affiliate network, you could browse through their marketplace and find huge number of products on variety of markets. I would recommend, you to take a few choices here based on your own interests. Say for example, if you are interested in finance or Forex trading, see the list of products available in the market related to Forex trading. You have to check the product reputation in the market and pick 2 or 3 from that huge list.
Personally, i would recommend you to use the common sense here. See the product sales page and predict yourself as a user. Find out, what problem the product solves ?
- For example, there are so many Forex trading software’s available in the market and in that case, see which products gives better features than other. Also, search Google about these products and see what the real users are saying about it. This way, you could find the reputation of the product.
Keep in mind that a “problem solving product never fails”. So pay attention to such products which addresses a problem in that market. It really helps to show the product to people who are having problems. Got it ?
Target the Right Audience.
As mentioned earlier, in affiliate marketing you don’t need to build a product (that’s really a hard task). Instead, spend quality time in finding the right product. Have a list of such quality products, say 2-3 numbers. Now the next step is, showing these products to the right audience.
- In general, every business revolves around these entities: product and audience. The success or the failure depends on, how well these two entities are tied to each other. When the product is recognized by your audience, you make profits and when they kick back, you loose the business.
The exception comes ONLY when the product really solves the audience problem. Because the audience has problem and he/she needs an effective solution. When the product is able to give the solution definitely they will buy it. That’s the secret of affiliate marketing or even the secret of any product based business. Now, we understood how the product-audience are related and how it affects the business. The next step is: bringing the audience and for the online world, we say it as drive traffic. The source of affiliate profit is traffic and more specifically, targeted traffic.
As mentioned earlier, you have to find people who are having problems and show the product as a solution. Finding people or driving traffic online is a tough job and its fun too. It needs dedicated right work. There are so many ways to drive traffic and i could not cover them all simply in a single page. However, i will recommend you the 2 important steps in driving traffic for LONG TERM.
#1 – Setup An Affiliate Product Blog.
Its very easy to open a blog about a topic. I would suggest you not to create free blogs from blogger.com or wordpress.com. Instead, register a domain name and take a web hosting service (check these Dreamhost articles on discounts/offers) because free blog looks ugly and people don’t trust on you (it doesn’t looks like a serious web site).
- Set up a wordpress blog, start writing about the products, apply basic SEO. More important, address the problem in your articles. Explain the problem, explain the solution – this way you could attract the people who are having problems. Now show the affiliate product as a solution. Got the point ?
Slowly, your blog attracts traffic and it gets visitors who are looking solution for their problem. This creates more chances of driving affiliate sales from your blog. #2 – Social Media Promotion.
Its social media fever everywhere and the whole world is floating on social media tools like: Facebook, Twitter. Set up a fan page for your blog and attract people who are really interested on this topic. You could advertise on Facebook to increase your fans number. Now add your blog RSS to Facebook and every time, you write an article i reaches your Facebook fans. Since they are interested in the topic, they will come back to check your article. This way, you could further increase the chances of buying an affiliate product from your blog.
Do the same on Twitter, you could directly tweet the affiliate link to your followers. All you have to build a strong network with huge number of followers/fans.
All these takes sometime to pick, don’t hurry and be patience to reap the fruit.
Track A to Z & Tweak It…
Finally, you have right products, you are driving targeted traffic and you are making sales. This is not a linear strategy which starts from a point and ends on another point. Instead, its a repeat strategy and you have to measure the results.
Track everything like: what product people are buying, which product sells more, the source of conversion (who buys) either blog visitors or social media visitors.
Use these data to tweak your steps, pick another product, find another source of traffic. Experiment it and do more experiments. This way, in a short period of time say 1-2 months, you will be following the best approach of affiliate marketing which makes profits for the long term.
