I would say, the very basic success element for an online business is an Unique Idea. It actually drives your business and decides the profits.
The foremost investment should be, transferring your idea into an action plan. When you have a plan in hand, your business will go in a focused direction.
Time to work.
Time is more important for an person to manage a business and in general, every one has to manage time effectively. Either you work part time with an online business or doing as a full time business, you have to spend quality time. It is almost the same like real world business where you have to get up and work hard to great extent. Everything from implementing your idea to managing the day-to-day business activities, you have to dedicate time.
Fix timely goals in your action plan.
Money, how much required ?
Do you know ? hosting a website costs less than $100 at the simplest configuration. Now think, how less the investment ! Its cheap right ? especially when compared to the real world business. As i said earlier, when you are just setting up a blog, it may not involve development cost.
At the same time, a business idea needs implementation. Either you have to hire a developer or you must do the development. Hiring a developer needs money. Go through the freelancing web sites and see, what developers are charging ? Then allocate your budget before hiring some one.
To make it short, you must need “web hosting cost + development cost” as very first step.
