I would say, designing a website is an Art. It should be sculpture like an Art with deep dedication, we should give the website a LIFE. The success of any website stands solely on the Branding. You must make and show your visitors a better brand in your website. In short, give a brand or catchy name to your website. Branding helps others to remember your website easily. If you search google for the keyword “Anatomy of online business”, my site comes in the first place. Though, the niche of “online business” is too competitive, this is an easy way to come out from the competition and to stand up ahead. So if you never thought about this before, give a brand name with a title to your website today.

Show the visitors what you are, in the first impression.

• The first impression should be the best impression always.
• You homepage should be self explanatory, if some newbie comes to your website. He or she should know what your website is about easily in the first look.
• Keep in mind, 80% if the websurfers are looking for information and they will be running from one website to another to find the information what they want.
• Showing the visitors that what you are offering the right information in your website, helps them to stay in your site to look for more information. Have clear sub-topics to tell them what you are showing in your website for the visitors.
• Homepage is the face of any website.Not all users come to your homepage first, possibility is that visitors may come from a search engine to your internal page looking for information. So you should ensure that every page of your website should convey what information it carries.
• In short your webpages should speak. It should have the life in terms of live information.

Use of easy navigation and clear layouts.

When it comes for navigation or layout design, keep it simple. Thats more powerful. Having a complex navigational page makes the visitors to get annoyed and they will run out of your website with confusions. Don’t dump you webpages with full of links, keep limited number of links on each page. It is important to provide the navigational links at the right place. Like “Next”, “Previous”, “Home” etc.

• The visitors should be able to reach the home page on a single click from any of the internal pages.
• Always, be careful in selecting the right color combinations, that really makes sense. Esp to make a best impression. Don’t forget to highlight the important pages or hot pages of your website in the homepage.
• Keep the number of clicks to reach a page not more than 2.

Keep your website fresh like a fruit.

I think, you know the freshness of a fruit. Keep that in mind and make your website fresh always. Fresh means updated or up-to-date. Unless you have a timeless content or immortal content, you must need fresh webpages.

• Update your websites content often.
• Its my believe that, “Content Is Power”. I am trying to keep my website as much as fresh. I have the regular habit of updating this website, that too only with “quality content”. So always stick to that.
• If you are a product based website, you could atleast show some changes or updates once a month or twice a month, to keep a dynamic website.
• Keep in mind, Internet is a dynamic medium, it expects dynamic and fresh information always. We should try out best to adhere that dynamic rule in order to make a better website.

Don;t forget to check the web browsers compatibility.

Statistics says, 75% percent of peoples are using Microsoft’s IE. So your first test should be on IE. Some of the other famous browsers are firefox, chrome, opera etc. Just run and see your website navigation, design atleast once. Or if you are doing a major design change try to run a browser compatibility test. I would strongly recommend you to check your website with Lynx text browsers . This really shows how your webpage and the links are organized. This gives the real search engine picture of your website. A good method to improve your website towards SEO. Be careful about multimedia usage.

Playing a background music, downloading a flash animation for 3-4 minutes, showing bunch of gif images are some of the examples of worst website design. This irritates the visitors. A sudden background music annoys or disturbs the user’s privacy. Don;t have too much of multimedia content unless really required.

A bonus point to add, keep everything quality. It is proved everywhere that quality website makes the real head to improve your online business revenue. Always maintain the professional touch in each and every aspect of your website design.
